About Me

Hello, my name is Oliver Han. I am from Singapore and am/was a Wells International School student. I spent a lot of my early years in Hong Kong, where I managed to ingrain myself in international school life. From then on, I grew excited at the opportunities that awaited me when moving to Bangkok: new cultures, new people, and new perspectives on how to live life. I have lived in Thailand since I was 11 years old, and as of this writing, I'm 18 (I'm getting old). I take biology, chemistry, and English at a higher level for my IB diploma, and Spanish, mathematics, and psychology at the standard level.

What is CAS?

CAS 1.jpg

CAS is a program that stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service. It is a program that serves to demonstrate and exhibit a student's activities outside of the traditional school setting.  It serves as a way for students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and make a positive impact on their community. In CAS, students engage in creative pursuits like art, music, or writing. Through CAS, students not only learn new things but also grow as individuals, become more well-rounded, and learn to contribute to society in meaningful ways.

CAS PROJECT: BOPAS

Creativity: Planning, filming, and editing YouTube videos

Investigation
For our CAS Project, a group consisting of me and four of my friends, have created a YouTube channel consisting of our day-to-day life, and any fun activities we may want to share with the world called BOPAS. This project has allowed us to explore our interests, as well as push past our comfort zones, and film content we find entertaining, that we may not usually want to do. Additionally, due to the flexibility of our CAS project, we are capable of expanding into the other CAS branches.

Preparation

The preparation phase of our CAS project involved each member planning and organising at least one piece of content for our YouTube channel. We brainstormed ideas for video topics, researched audience preferences, and developed a production schedule. Each team member was assigned specific roles and responsibilities, for their given video and thus each member got to experience different aspects of filming videos.

Action

The action phase of our CAS project involved us filming high-quality and entertaining videos on YouTube to reach a wide audience and spread our sense of humour and joy, as well as different cultural and international backgrounds to various parts of the internet. Despite that, however, filming was found to be very difficult due to scheduling conflicts, as well as a lack of time over the period following our launch. Additionally, during the summer holidays, each member moved away for vacation, and as such no videos were capable of being filmed. This hampered us slightly and did not allow us to produce as many videos as possible, with some videos still under development. However, in contrast to that, We are proud of the videos we have produced and the message we have shared with our audience.

Reflection

The CAS project has proven to be a more difficult task than anticipated. The technical aspects of filming a video have proven to be tricky, and my group and I have had to learn optimal camera angles, as well as how to properly capture audio. This has allowed me to better my critical thinking skills, as we needed to find cheap audio recording software, that did not have terrible quality. Additionally, editing has been a very long process. I am mainly responsible for editing all the videos, although I do get suggestions on editing style from the other group members, as well as tips on how to make the content more enjoyable. However, editing videos has forced me to learn how to persevere and have patience, as a lot of the time, my edits tend to not look good until everything is fully completed.
